Why did I get a bill from the rescue squad?
Our services are provided to all residents of Nutley and Belleville with no out-of-pocket expense to the patient. Our operating costs are covered strictly with donations and reimbursement from medical insurance billing ONLY! We do not balance bill, and no citizen will ever pay a single dollar out of pocket. Please do not hesitate to contact us immediately with any questions regarding billing.
Who can become a member of the Nutley Rescue Squad?
Anyone 16 or older is eligible to join "The Squad".
What are the steps to becoming a member?
The first step is to either visit our headquarters to pick up an application, or apply online by clicking the APPLICATIONS tab at the top of the page. You will be contacted by our personnel department and scheduled for an interview at which you will learn a bit of the history of our organization and be informed of your duties and responsibilities as a member. Once you are interviewed and approved for membership, you will need to undergo a physical exam. Upon completion of your physical and background check, you will be assigned to one of our night crews for your Tour of Duty.
How many hours do I need to commit to Nutley Rescue?
The minimum time commitment is 48 hours a month. This breaks down to one 12-hour shift (6PM - 6AM) each business week (Monday - Friday). Different volunteering hours can be accommodated on a case by case basis when you apply, e.g., 12-hour shift on Saturday or 12 hour shift during the day from 6 AM to 6 PM.
I have no training, how can I help?
No experience is necessary! We will assist you in locating an EMT class that fits your schedule and that is paid for by the State of New Jersey. We will also work with you to get you CPR certified and help you through your EMT class.
I am a high school student, how can I do my full tour and still go to school?
Students are only allowed to ride from 6PM till 11 PM on school nights. With a note from a parent/guardian, you may ride an entire shift during breaks from school.
I am a college student and go away to school, but would still like to ride with Nutley Rescue, can I?
That is not a problem. Upon completion of your probationary period, you may take an educational leave of absence and continue to ride with your crew while home during breaks.
Can I join if I don't live in Nutley?
We accept applicants from our neighbors Clifton and Belleville. Other towns are considered on a case by case basis.
